Specific permissions

Sound Profile needs specific permissions to control all the powerful features. This list shows the permissions needed:

Modify System Settings and Do Not Disturb access

These are the only two basic permissions that must be granted the first time you use the app. Both are required in order to start using Sound Profile.

Modify System Settings is needed to allow Sound Profile to activate vibration, screen brightness, driving mode, turn on Wifi, and other needed settings for the main purpose of this application.

Do Not Disturb access is also required to allow Sound Profile to activate Silent profiles.

Take a look at this video to see how to activate this permissions the first time you launch the app:

Modifying Wifi requires Location permission

Latest Android releases require that an app holds the Location permission to be able to manage Wifi connection, as well as Tethering (Wifi hotspot) and Nearby wifi services. This is due to the following reason:

Google cars have been taking pictures of the streets (for the Street View service in Google Maps and Google Earth) but also those cars have been collecting the Wifi SSIDs along they were traveling around our cities. All that information, where an SSID is associated to a specific location, is somewhere available in the Internet. So, this means, than if an app knows that you are connected to a specific Wifi, or if a specific Wifi is near you, then it could be able to know your location. So, the result is that an app could know where you are without having the Location permission. Now, Android became more strict to protect users, so an app needs location permission granted to be able to manage Wifi connections.

Also, the location service must be enabled by you. This means that the main switch in your Android settings to allow locations must be enabled.

Sound Profile doesn’t need this permission if you do not manage Wifi services in the app.

Background Location permission

Depending on the features you activate in Sound Profile, it would need access to get your location while the app is not visible, or even when it is closed.

For example, you could set Sound Profile to automatically activate Silent profile every time you get in your place of work. Later, when leaving work, you want it to automatically activate Loud profile. You get this functionality using geofences with the Tasks & Events feature.

So, if you want to use this feature, in order to activate the right profile according to your settings, Sound Profile will display a prominent disclosure to be granted to get your device locations periodically, even when the app is not visible, even when it is closed or even when it is in the background.

If you don’t want Sound Profile to access your location, either don’t use the Geofences feature or not grant the permission. If the permission was previously granted and you don’t want it any more, you could ungrant it any time in your Android settings >> Privacy >> Permissions screen.

Of course, Sound Profile will never send any personal data, location information, or any other information to anywhere. Sound Profile will never use the information you have in your device, and/or its location, for any purpose different of what this app is supposed to do. Your privacy and your location is completely secure.

  1. I used to use “Profile Manager” Imanaged to export the package and use it now on my google pixel 7 pro. There was an option to lock screen rotation. Is this implemented in this software too? I can’t find it in the free version.

    1. Hello

Please, send me your current settings using these steps:
Open Sound Profile >> menu >> Settings >> Send Me An Email (let the app automatically attach the app settings)
(for older versions use this: Open Sound Profile >> menu >> Contact Me)
In that email tell me again your issue so I can remember it (I receive many emails from many users).
Tell me also the exact profile name you are using for this testing.

  3. I have a new One Plus Nord N30 android phone. In Alarms Only mode, my alarms don’t sound. In the profile settings for alarms only, I have alarm volume at 100%. The alarms work in Normal mode, but I don’t understand it. Any suggestions?

  4. It’s the first app I install on a new phone. LOVE the updated menu/settings system. You made it simple where I thought it never could be. Congrats!
I recently had a problem where my phone would go into vibrate only mode all by itself. Drove me crazy. Thought it could be this app. Turned out there was a setting in Samsung accessibly that changed the power button to be a volume toggle. THAT was the problem. Once I removed that setting my volume returned to normal. Made me so happy!

    1. Oh, I had no idea that option was available for Samsung devices. Remember you can lock the volumes with Sound Profile:
Open Sound Profile >> menu >> Setting >> Lock volumes (avoid to be modified)

  5. Hello,
I have sound profile for some years now. I don’t remember exactly when, but it was cca 2~3 years ago, when something in the app has changed. From this change on, the automatic tethering on my huawey 20 mate does not work as it should. Instead turning On tethering with already set Hotspot name and password, it turns on with random Hotspot name and unknown password. For example: I have set Hotspot name “VALTER_HUAWEI” with my password but the app sound profile turns on the Hotspot with name “AndroidShare_2771” and unknown password. Also the name of the Hotspot is always the same with the number following changed.
Example next time will be “AndroidShare_4328” etc.
Is this issue only on my phone or is this some sort of bug, that can be resolved?
I have this option activated when I start my car to connect my radio to the net. But as I’ve said it does not work correctly anymore…
Can you help me on this issue?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards
    Valter from Slovenia.
    P. S.
For other functions I’m very satisfied! 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
    Perfect app ❗❗❗

    1. I am really sorry. That feature is not reliable. In the last few years Android decided to not allow external apps to be able to activate or deactivate the Hostpot (Tethering) on the device. Now users have to do it manually. Some Android versions (customized or rooted…) still allow it, that is why I haven’t removed it as an option in my app. It used to be a great feature. I am really sorry it doesn’t work correctly on your device. My apologies.
Nevertheless, it would be good if you contact me personally at corcanoe@gmail.com because there are some things I would like you to check, let’s see if we can make it work.
      Thanks

  7. Just had to say – I love this app and have the PRO version.

I have a query; under the app’s “More settings”, is the Tethering option supposed to turn off/on Mobile Hotspot?

I am running Android 12 with version 8.40 of the app.

    1. Yes it is. But Android is limiting developers a lot. It doesn’t work for every device. It depends on the manufacturer and the Android version. In fact, it is under the “More settings” section, but also under the tag “These next features might not be available in your Android release“.

    1. Hello

Could you please give more information? I need you to explain the problem with details. Tell me what you want to do, tell me what really happened, tell me the exact errors you get…
It is also good if you tell me your phone model and android release.
Remember, a “it doesn’t work” is not enough.
