Widgets

Starting from version 8.20

It is possible to create several widgets on the home screen to quickly activate profiles. These are some examples:

Create a widget to quickly activate profile Normal with a single tap on your home screen.
Create another widget to quickly activate profile Silent with a single tap on your home screen.

Create a widget to quickly activate profile Meeting for just 30 minutes with a single tap on your home screen.

Create a widget to display the current profile name and icon

Create a widget to quickly return to your Automatic Scheduler

Create a widget to quickly activate profile Night until the alarm sounds in the morning, then activate profile Normal

It is very simple to create any of those widgets. Simply follow these instructions:

Widget list for Sound Profile
  • Long pres on your home screen.
  • Your Android will allow you to choose to add widgets. Tap on it.
  • You will see a list of all the apps with widgets available. Scroll and select Sound Profile.
  • Once you see Sound Profile you will have the option to choose on the available options. Select the one you need according to your needs. Remember you can add several widgets of the same kind. These are the available options:

Activate a profile

Select this option when you need to create a profile to quickly activate a specific profile. When the settings screen displays, select the profile you want to be activated when pressing on it.
You can choose a text to be displayed on your home screen or simply use the profile name. Choosing a different text will help you to find it better. For example, instead of calling it “Silent” you could call it “Work” or “School” or “Library”…
Try creating different widgets like “Normal”, “Loud”, “Calls only”…
You are also able to choose an icon for it. Either select the icon you want from the list or browse for any image on your device.

Widget, activate a profile

Once you finish, tap on Save. The widget will be displayed on your home screen. Test the widget tapping on it.

Like any other widget you can move it long pressing on it.

In case you want to edit an already created widget, please see below.

Activate for some time

Use this option to create a widget that when tapping on it, it will activate a profile for some specific time. For example, activate profile Silent for 30 minutes and then go back to profile Normal.
When the settings screen displays, select the profile you want to be activated when pressing on it, select also the amount of hours and minutes you want it to be active, and also select the profile you want to return when this time expires.
You can also choose a text to be displayed on your home screen, for example, create a widget with the text “Meeting for 30 min” to activate profile “Vibration only” for 30 minutes and then let it automatically activate profile Normal.
Create also a widget called “Sleep” to activate profile Silent for 8 hours and then let it automatically activate profile Normal.

Widget, Activate for some time

Please note: You can also activate profiles for a specific amount of time directly from the main app. More info here.

Activate Scheduler

Use this option to create a widget that when tapping on it, it will activate the current profile in the Automatic Scheduler (Planner).
The settings screen in this case only allows you to choose a name and an icon.

Let’s say you have an Automatic Scheduler to activate different profiles at different times, for example at 06:00 Loud, at 08:00 Work, at 12:00 Lunch, at 12:30 Work, at 5:00 pm Loud, a 6:00 pm Cooking class, at 7:00 pm Loud, at 8:00 pm Night.
Let’s say you enter a meeting at 11:45 and you activate profile Silent. Once you exit the meeting you don’t have to think which is the profile to activate, maybe it is Work or maybe it is Lunch. Simply tap on this widget and it will activate the profile that matches according to the exact time.

Activate until alarm goes off

Use this option to create a widget that when tapping on it, it will activate a profile until the next alarm sounds. For example, activate profile Night until the alarm sounds in the morning to wake you up. One this happens, profile Normal will be automatically be activated.
When the settings screen displays, select the profile you want to be activated when pressing on it.
You can also choose a text to be displayed on your home screen.

Display active profile icon

This widget will display the active profile’s name and icon. Tapping on it, it will open the Sound Profile app. Very useful to see what profile is active at a glance.

This widget doesn’t have any specific settings.

Modify already created widgets

In case you need to edit an already created widget, you can do it directly long tapping on it and choose the edit icon.

The edition of already created widgets is only available for newer Android releases. For older android releases, open the Sound Profile app >> menu >> More options >> Widgets

  1. Is it possible to turn off an app? Like when I reach work geofences, activate work profile, and turn off navigation. If so, how? Thanks so much! Keep up the good work.

    1. I am sorry. but stopping apps is much more difficult because it needs Administrative permissions. It would be like Task Managers or Task Killers.

  2. How do you create a shortcut to select a profile from the list of profiles?
    IE:
I click on the shortcut, select the Vibrate profile from the list to attend a meeting, 5 minutes into the meeting, I need to select the Silent profile from the list, then I need to select the Normal profile from the list after the meeting.
There was a widget that I could do this but I’m not sure how to do it with shortcuts. I don’t want a bunch of icons on my screen with each profile.

  3. I thought widgets were being depreciated in favor of shortcuts. But now I see no mention of shortcuts. What’s up?

  4. After activating a profile from a widget, is there a setting so screen returns to cell’s homepage instead of staying within the app?

    1. Yes, in fact that is how it should work.
Be sure you exit the app clicking on the back button until it exits or use the Exit option in the app menu.
But do not exit clicking on the Home button. Clicking on the Home button doesn’t exit the app, it just minimized it. So, calling the app in any way (like activating a profile from a widget) will make it to restore.
Try it this way and let me know your results.

  5. I don’t wont to have the name of profile on specific widget icon’ but it seems it does not work in this version of the application.

    1. A new major version is coming. It will have many with more options, some included for widgets. That will be in.

  6. After activating a profile from a widget, is there a setting so screen returns to cell’s homepage instead of staying within the app?

    1. Yes, of course. In fact that is the normal behavior. If the app is being open after using the widget it is because it was not correctly closed the last time it was used. So, simply open the app and exit it using one of these options:
      1. Open the menu and tap on the Exit button
      2. Press the back buttons several times until you exit the app
      3. Simply activate a profile

After you exit the app correctly, you can tap on your widgets and they will not launch the main app.
If you need extra help, please let me know.
